Introduction
Being an eloquent speaker is an asset for everyone.
Whether speaking clearly and confidently to a large audience or nurturing a love of literature and performance, speech and drama lessons can offer the opportunity to develop all your communication skills.
One to one tuition allows an individual to focus on their own development as a confident communicator and follow a tuition path tailored to their needs.

Starting with speech analysis to identify any areas of diction which may need attention, I then use exercises and various forms of literature e.g. poetry or prose to develop a well-modulated, clear and projected voice.
The benefits of speech and drama lessons are numerous –
They can
-
develop all speaking and communication skills
-
enhance listening skills
-
broaden knowledge and appreciation of literature
-
develop self-confidence and self-awareness
-
improve the clarity of speech
-
develop application of imagination
-
allow creative expression
From young children through to adults my main focus is to encourage and develop clear and confident speakers. Once this is established, the many forms of drama allow development of the performer through creating narratives, exploration of character and physical expression.

Festivals

Speech and drama festivals offer performance opportunities in local communities encouraging young people to participate in the performing arts. They have a strong educational emphasis and provide a chance to perform in front of a live audience and receive feedback from a professional adjudicator. This guidance contributes to the development of each performer to lift their work on to the next level.
Most classes at festivals are competitive and there are a variety of classes on offer including Verse Speaking, Prose Reading and Acting. Each year the festival publishes a syllabus with details of set pieces and entry requirements.
Within the local area there are two festivals :
Harrogate Competitive Festival for Music, Speech and Drama (March) and Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts (May).
